The Four Pillars

The life of a Lay Dominican is structured around four essential pillars: prayer, study, community, and apostolate. These pillars work together to support and enrich one's spiritual journey and commitment to the Order of Preachers.

Prayer:

Prayer serves as the foundation of Dominican life. Lay Dominicans are encouraged to engage in daily personal prayer, including spontaneous conversations with God, daily rosary, and to participate in communal prayers such as the Liturgy of the Hours. This practice unites them with the universal Church, fostering a deep communion with God and the Lay Dominican community.

Study:

Study is integral to the Dominican vocation. Lay Dominicans are called to diligently study Sacred Scripture, Church teachings, and the writings of saints and theologians. This commitment to lifelong learning deepens their understanding of the faith, enabling them to effectively share the Gospel's truths with others.

Community:

Community life reflects the familial aspect of the Order. While Lay Dominicans may not live together, they form local chapters that meet regularly for prayer, study, and mutual support. These gatherings foster a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood, encouraging members to grow together in their spiritual and apostolic endeavors.

Apostolate, or preaching, is the active expression of the Dominican mission. Lay Dominicans are called to share the fruits of their contemplation and study through various forms of evangelization, catechesis, and service. This pillar emphasizes the importance of bringing the Gospel to others, whether through direct preaching, teaching, or acts of charity.
